I thought I’d share a fun little DIY decor project today…doily wall art. I needed to freshen up our living room, and I wanted to keep the cost down since we just spent a fair amount repainting and decorating our family room (more about that later). Doilies seem to be all the rage right now, don’t they? And they are quite inexpensive, so I thought, wouldn’t it be cute to collect several sizes and styles and frame them with a nice bright paper in the background. This is so easy and it looks great when you’re done.
Here’s how you do it:
Find some crocheted doilies that you like. I just got a bunch of inexpensive white ones at JoAnn’s, like this:
But how cute are these colorful ones from frogfeathers?
Next, take a nice heavy paper (I used pastel art paper from JoAnn’s as well) and decide what size frame(s) you want. I used 10 x 13 and decided that white frames looked best with the white doilies.
Cut the paper to fit the frames, and lay your doilies out to decide on the arrangement you want. Once you figure that out, use a craft glue to adhere them to the paper and stick the paper in the frames. I used Tacky Glue, and that seemed to work very well. That’s all there is to it. So easy and fun! And so cute and cheap. Now you have a unique, handmade set of wall art that’s perfect for your home because it’s made by you.

you could also die your white doilies for a more “custom” look: off white or bright white paper with pastel or bright doilies, or ribbons for stems to make them flower “pictures.” Oh, the possibilities!

What a wonderful Idea! I love the play of color between the wall, the background and the doily.
Now I know exactly what I will do with the once my GM gifted me. The are too precious to just put out openly with all my kids running around. But they would be safe on the wall and we can enjoy looking at them too.
Thank you for the inspiration.

These are great! They are soft but could be totally retro. Thanks for the idea!
